What Are The Best Meditation Apps?
Written by:PaulJune 23, 2022

Meditation helps us relax, calms our minds, and makes us more present.
Still, building a meditation practice can be a challenge in the modern world. It’s hard to take a moment for yourself when a cell phone full of distractions is just a tap away.
Luckily, the universe has balance. Your phone can also help you to meditate!
Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced meditator, there’s a good chance you can benefit from downloading and trying out a meditation app.
Not sure where to get started? Check out Florensi’s favorite meditation apps!

Headspace is one of the most popular meditation apps out there, and for good reason. They’ve been in the smartphone meditation game for a long time, and their approach to meditation is impressively refined.
Our favorite thing about Headspace is the wide selection of sessions offered, covering just about any situation where you might need a little extra guidance.
Feeling nervous about going back to work on Sunday night? Headspace can talk you through it.
Trouble sleeping? Headspace will walk you through exercises to help calm your mind as you drift off to dreamland.
Just want to get started with the basics of meditation? Headspace excels at that.
The seamless interface and dense but well-organized library make Headspace a strong option when choosing a meditation app.
Headspace has a 7-day free trial after which it costs $69.99 a year, or 12.99/monthly.

The Calm app offers many of the same things Headspace does while innovating and expanding in some fun ways that help it stand apart.
For example, Calm features a wide range of kid-friendly and youth-focused content. If you’ve been wondering how to introduce your little ones to the benefits of meditation, Calm is a great place to start.
Calm has also gone big with its voice talent, bringing in celebrities like Matthew McConaughey to voice their sleep stories and meditation sessions. If you like your serenity with a side of fame, you’ll appreciate Calm.
Apple users will also appreciate the apps functionality with the Apple watch, perfect for a mindful walking meditation.
Calm is a bit less structured than Headspace, so you might find it more difficult to know where to begin. Still, the massive amount of content they offer is undeniably worth exploring.
You’ll also discover deep personalization options with Calm, making customizing your meditation journey both fun and engaging.
Calm offers a 7-day free trial, after which it’s $69.99 a year.
If you really love Calm, you can go all in and purchase a lifetime subscription for $399.99. Not a bad price to pay for a lifetime of peace and harmony.

At only $30/year, Buddhify is one of the more affordable meditation apps out there. Unlike Headspace and Calm, Buddhify is designed to fit into your busy modern life.
Instead of sitting down for a 10-20 minute meditation, Buddhify allows you to take serenity on the go. Whether you’re commuting, doing chores, or even cooking, this app will help you fit your own personal well-being into the time you have.
We appreciate Buddhify’s focus on developing it’s users independence as meditators. The app isn’t just focused on keeping you around with a monthly subscription fee. It’s a modern, open-minded approach to growing and deepening your meditation practice.
Of course, if you still do want to try some more formal meditation sessions, Buddhify can help you with that too. They offer video courses and interactive lessons to help shape and strengthen your individual practice.

The fact that the Healthy Minds app is completely free isn’t the only reason we love it. That said, if you’re on a budget, or simply don’t want your meditation interrupted with subscription offers, Healthy Minds is a great option.
Healthy Minds uses neuroscience to help build your awareness and personal insights through podcast-style lessons. It’s not just about learning how to meditate. It's about understanding how your mind works on a scientific level, so you can more fully understand your inner workings.
Of course, the one-size-fits-all approach offered by Healthy Minds may not appeal to everyone. You may find it tricky to apply their specific methods to your exact personality and needs.
Healthy Minds works even better when used in conjunction with other meditation apps and lessons to more fully appreciate and understand your mindfulness practice.
In a setting often driven and supported by tradition, it’s great to see a scientific approach getting a chance to shine.
If you’re still dipping your toes into meditation, Healthy Minds is a great place to start.
